The hashtag #optoutsowhite attempts to suggest that only white parents of privilege are opting out of standardized testing. But Black and Latino parents are opting out, although mainstream media is not telling their stories. Ride this month’s BUS — driven by BadAss Teachers, United Opt Out, and Save Our Schools — to get the real story. Guests include Shakeda Gaines, Kendra Brooks, and Tomika Denise, all African American mothers opting out in Philadelphia, plus BUS regular, Denisha Jones.
Also on this week’s BUS: the recent Network for Public Education conference and the upcoming SOS Coalition for Action event July 8-10. Listen live at 11 a.m. EST via TuneIn or check back for recording.
