Despite reports to the contrary and deliberate attempts to divide the movement, parents are Opting Out of standardized testing in communities of color. The hashtag #OptOutSoWhite would have some believing that some communities WANT standardized testing. But these Philadelphia parents tell a different story about Black and Latino opting out. Take the BUS — driven by BadAss Teachers, United Opt Out, and Save Our Schools — to get the real story. Guests include Shakeda Gaines, Tonya Bah, and Tomeka Anglin, all African American mothers opting out in Philadelphia, plus BUS regular, Rosalie Friend. (April BUS ran a little late. Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience.)
Also on this week’s BUS: the recent Network for Public Education conference and the upcoming SOS Coalition for Action event July 8-10.
