John Cheeks, candidate for Chair of the DC City Council, joined the Education Town Hall on 8/21. He stressed the importance of the pledge of allegiance for all students, encouraging patriotism. He also spoke of the need to bring veterans into schools to promote “diet discipline” and physical education.
He argues against boundaries for DC public schools, calling them “discriminatory,” if all schools are “public.” Among specific proposals is a college prep academy, in conjunction with Georgetown University, for Georgetown neighborhood students who “don’t want to fight traffic to get the Wilson SHS” [the DCPS comprehensive high school with the highest scores].
