Councilmember Elissa Silverman (Ind, at-large), who is up for re-election this year, and Emily Gasoi, candidate for Ward 1 representative to DC’s State Board of Education, join the Education Town Hall this week, Thursday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. to discuss education challenges facing the District.
Ms. Gasoi, new to the show, is a 14-year resident of Ward 1, DC public school parent, educator, and co-author of These Schools Belong to You and Me. She and educator Deborarh Meier wrote These Schools about public schools as essential components of a democratic society and an educated citizenry. Ms. Silverman has been a guest of the show several times over the years, before and after her election to the Council, which has oversight of schools and budgets. She is chairperson of the Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, which oversees the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program.
