Ateya Ball-Lacy joined the Education Town Hall to discuss her “reality TV” project following youth interacting with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) instruction. Images of Black youth are so often negative; meanwhile, she says, they face so many challenges and still manage to excel. “Hood Smart” is highlighting their brilliance. We can entertain without falling into stereotypes usual on reality TV…And we know that Black college attendance peeked when “A Different World” was on TV. What students see matters.”
