Puerto Rico Plans to Close 600 (Half) of Its Schools!?

Mercedes Martinez, of the Federación de Maestros de Puerto Rico (FMPR) [Federation of Teachers of Puerto Rico], and Ruth Rodriguez of United Opt Out joined the Education Town Hall on August 27 to discuss a government plan to close 600 schools and lay off 1000 teachers. Community response has includes occupying school buildings and demanding a 10% tax on the wealthiest corporations rather than attempting to balance economic shortfalls on the backs of the poorest citizens.   1. That’s really productive. So destabilize and create social unrest? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. These hedge fund guys are beyond reprehensible. The words currently escape me.
